While at the Awaken Retreat in La Jolla one of the gals proposed a question to the group –
“What’s on your bucket list for this year?”
WOW! good question....but I didn’t have an answer.
Everyone has a bucket list, even if they don’t have it scribbled in chalk down a giant blackboard or scrawled in italics in a tea-stained journal.
You might not even call it a bucket list, but i'm sure you’ve got DREAMSyou want to live out before you die.
Setting goals is part of human nature, but it turns out some of us have a less imagination than others when it comes to aspirations.
When I think of bucket list, I usually associate it with a grandiose experience or feat like going sky diving, swimming with sharks, writing a book, meeting the person you most admire….like Oprah or Quentin Tarantino.
BUT I didn’t have anything planned for 2019…. DO YOU?
Many of us will live our entire lives without having any idea as to what we want.
We will follow societies current expectations of getting married, working the same office job for the next twenty years, buying a home and having children ¬– all without giving it a second thought because that is just what we are “supposed to do.”
I hate that saying “supposed to do” don’t you?
But, if that path is not your true passion, then life will end up leading you, instead of you leading your life.
I tried to come up with an answer to why I wasn’t living my dreams or didn't have a bucket list for 2019?
The best I could come up with is that I was lazy.
I decided to be a passenger on the ride…we called life.
I decide to step back instead of a step forward?
Maybe I just needed a break.
No matter how much self-development you do, there is going to be a time when life decides to be in control, so you don’t have to.
This feeling is normal, and there is always going to be winter in every season of your life.
“Winter is coming— John Snow”
But.....it's not winter. It's spring and SUMMER is coming!
Summer is when we think of a vacation, friendship, joy, fullness, and warmth.
In “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” series by Ann Brashares, each book takes place during the summer. Summer symbolizes freedom and growth for the characters as they search for love, self-acceptance, and their identities.
So......What’s on your “bucket list” for this year? What have you always wanted to do or travel to????
Maybe you have something already planned…How to rock it!
Or maybe you have no clue, and that’s ok too. You’re in good company.
Start with what do you want?
The process of writing a bucket list forces you to take a close look at what it is you truly desire and where you want to be.
Try sitting down and contemplate what your future will look like, your dreams and what type of experiences you want.
A bucket list is an invitation to DREAM BIGGER.
This year and before you die, it opens up all the possibilities.
It encourages you to put on your list all the things you have ever thought about doing while taking away the limitation of fear, time and money.
Make a bucket list and fill it with dreams that have no boundaries; things that scare the daylights out of you.
Makes you pee-your-pants.
Inspires you to be a better version of yourself.
Keep it close, and refer to it often as a reminder to never forget your Dreams.
I want to hear you say in 2020, “I did ………” in 2019 and it was incredible!
